Remembrance Day
Remembrance day is difficult to come to terms with for me. It causes the conflict between the value we place upon the sacrifice others have made in war and the glorification of the act of war itself. While it is necessary to police the actions of other nations and specifically their leaders, it is more challenging to accept that we need to do it through violence. I believe that it is no more acceptable for one nation to attack another than for one spouse to physically attack another. Yet I also recognise the need for policing to use force, to deter one individual or in this case one country, from harming others. I can only hope that all other methods of intervention are used before violence is called upon. Far too often it appears that the road to violence like a downhill slope is the easiest travelled. I hope those who have lost loved ones in war can use the time to reflect on the lives of the lost as it was before war.
